Joe Schilling vs. Simon Marcus re-match taking place at Lion Fight Promotions May 12th event

The highly anticipated re-match between Joe Schilling and Simon Marcus is now expected to take place at Lion Fight Promotions next event on May 12th. Sources close to the promotion have informed Muay Thai Authority that both fighters have already agreed to the fight.

For those not familiar with the situation, Schilling and Marcus fought at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 5”. Marcus won by first round (T)KO, but there was much debate after Schilling and Marcus fell to the canvas after an attempted throw by Marcus, the fall causing Schilling to get dazed. After they were back on their feet a vicious left hook from Marcus knocked Schilling down and then a few moments later an elbow from Marcus knocked him down again at which point the referee stopped the fight.

An official announcement from Lion Fight Promotions is expected in the upcoming days.

Schilling vs. Marcus II – TICKETS NOW ON SALE!
    March 26th, 2012 by lionfight

HEATED RIVALS JOE SCHILLING AND SIMON MARCUS
TO REMATCH IN LION FIGHT MUAY THAI VI
    MAIN EVENT AT
HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO LAS VEGAS MAY 12

TICKETS GO ON SALE SATURDAY, MARCH 24

LAS VEGAS (March 23, 2012) – Off the heels of their winner-take-all showdown that began with fireworks and ended in controversy, WBC Light Heavyweight (175 pounds) Champion Joe “Stitch ‘Em Up” Schilling (12-2, 10 KO’s) of Los Angeles, Calif. and undefeated, bitter rival Simon Marcus (23-0, 18 KO’s) of Toronto, Ontario Canada have agreed to square off in a rematch in the main event of the next Lion Fight WBC championship full-rules Muay Thai event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday, May 12.

Reserved seating for Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: Schilling vs. Marcus II, priced from $45, goes on sale Saturday, March 24 at 12 p.m. PT at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino box office, all Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000) and online at Ticketmaster.com.

“I am really looking forward to the rematch. I think the first fight didn’t prove anything about who the better fighter is,” said Schilling. “I was obviously knocked out after Simon landed on my head and anything that happened after that was out of my control. Even after I was basically defenselessly standing there, Simon still couldn’t knock me out. I am very focused and motivated for the rematch.”

During their initial encounter at The Joint on Feb. 25, Schilling came out of the gates swinging, looking to score an early KO on Marcus. Poised and composed, Marcus weathered the storm for the most part and countered Schilling’s offense.

While the two were engaged in a clinch in the first round, Marcus executed a throw that sent both fighters to the canvas. Schilling landed head-first, on his back, and was badly hurt from the weight of Marcus crashing down on him.

Schilling slowly made it to his feet and, after the fight resumed, Marcus pounced on his opponent and sent Schilling to the mat once again. Using sheer willpower, Schilling beat the 10 count, but the referee, seeing Schilling unfit to continue, stopped the contest, giving Marcus the TKO victory and both fighters’ purses.

Instant replay showed that Marcus initiated the throw at the ankle line, with one of his feet behind Schilling, a technique that some governing bodies deem illegal under Muay Thai rules (Only throws initiated at the waist line and above are legal). The referee, however, determined that there was no rules infraction.

“Anybody who understands the sport of Muay Thai knows that it was a legal sweep because when I stepped, I did not use my heel to hook his leg. I threw him over my knee and he pulled me down and I landed on top of him,” explained Marcus. “If you pull somebody on top of you, you’ve got to defend yourself. I have no problems fighting Joe again, though. He wanted a rematch and it’s going to happen.”

“Because of the unorthodox and inconclusive manner in which the fight unfolded, it’s only fair to both fighters as well as the fans that an immediate rematch take place,” said Lion Fight Promotions CEO Scott Kent.

“This rematch between Joe and Simon will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest Muay Thai fight in history on American soil,” Kent continued. The skill and talent of the two fighters combined with the hostility between Joe and Simon make this one of the most anticipated Muay Thai fights of all-time in North America.”

Additional bouts for Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: Schilling vs. Marcus II, will be announced soon.

Uusintaottelun voittaja kohtaa Artem Levinin 9. kesäkuuta Bangkokissa järjestettävässä “Battle of the Belts” illassa, jossa otellaan 7. eri WBC-liiton MM-ottelua.

Katso 1. kohtaaminen. Ottelu alkaa kohdasta 7:30.

Romie Adanza vs. Thanit “Boom” Watthanaya

The 32-year-old, 5-foot-4 Adanza, a protégé of famed trainer Colin Oyama, and the 26-year-old Watthanaya, better known by his nickname, faced off for the first time last May 28 in Pala,Calif. After two closely contested rounds that saw both fighters score with their attacks, Adanza stormed out of the gates in the outset of the third round, scoring a brutal KO on Watthanaya at the 18 second mark of the round with a knee strike to the head.

A quick and explosive fighter known for exciting audiences with his punching skills, Adanza is coming off a spectacular Feb. 18 second round TKO victory over Tomonori Sato in Tokyo, Japan.

“I think this is going to be a tough rematch,” admitted Adanza of his upcoming challenge. “He’s a strong fighter and we both know what to look out so I have my work cut out for me.”

To strengthen his training camp for the rematch, the 5-foot-6 Boom has brought in seasoned professional boxers to work with.
“This is going to be a great fight for the sport of Muay Thai,” said Boom. “I am concerned about Romie’s punches, but I feel that I have better kicks and clinching skills.”

Mongkon “Malaipet” Wiwasuk vs. Justin Greskiewicz

Wiwasuk, better known to fight fans as “Malaipet,” is a decorated champion of Bangkok, Thailand’s Rajadamnern Stadium, one of the country’s two most prestigious arenas for world-class Muay Thai competition. A practitioner of Muay Thai since the age of eight, he is known for his powerful kicks and clinch work.

Malaipet made his Lion Fight debut on just two days’ notice last Nov. 19 and, after tagging Jose Palacios with repeated body kicks for three rounds, emerged victorious by way of split decision.

The 5-foot-10 Greskiewicz is a 27-year-old product of Cool Hearts Muay Thai gym, who has been competing professionally for five years. Nicknamed “The Purple People Eater,” Greskiewicz’s fighting style is as flashy as his hair that he colors purple and has complemented his composed demeanor in the ring well enough to escalate him to title contention.

In his last start, Greskiewicz earned a decision over Bernie Mendietta in Bournemouth, England on March 3.

    Matt Embree vs. Nils Widlund

Embree surprised many fans with his ability to dominate Chunhawat, a veteran of 170 professional Muay Thai bouts, in their third meeting, after earning a split decision win and losing a split decision, respectively, against Chunhawat in their two previous matchups. Embree used his slick defense to avoid Chunhawat’s punches and fed Chunhawat a steady dose of leg kicks and knee strikes from the clinch to earn the nod from all three judges and pick up his sixth consecutive victory.

Widlund is known for his mix of traditional Dutch style kickboxing, which utilizes level changes, and the explosive movements embraced by San Shou style kickboxing. He is a three-time Swedish champion under San Shou rules and a former WTKA world champion under Muay Thai rules.

    Javier Torres vs. Michael Madrid

Both seasoned scrappers who bring tremendous intensity and MMA fight experience with them into the ring, Torres, a 26-year-old native of Mexico, and Madrid, a 26-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska, both relocated to the fight capital of the world to hone their fighting skills.

Torres owns a 3-1 overall record in professional MMA and is a member of Team MICA. Madrid, who was victorious in his last start over Strikeforce veteran Waachiim Spiritwolf last Oct. 21, is a member of MMA legend Wanderlei Silva’s fight team and enters the ring with an overall 9-7 record in professional MMA competition.

    Scotty Leffler vs. Artem Sharoshkin

Leffler will look for his second straight victory after earning a unanimous decision over Sheldon Gaines at the last Lion Fight Muay Thai event on Feb. 25. Despite sustaining a broken toe just two weeks before the bout, Leffler honored his commitment to the matchup.

After scoring a knockdown on Gaines with a sharp knee strike to the head in the first stanza, Leffler weathered a storm from his opponent and controlled the tempo for the remainder of the fight.

Sharoshkin is a 25-year-old native of Penza, Russia, whose family sent him to The United States when he was 18 years old in order to escape the perils of the underworld in his homeland that he was exposed to and leaning towards while growing up.

Initially frustrated with the language barrier and cultural differences he encountered, Sharoshkin was suddenly inspired while watching the famed MTV True Life episode “I’m A Muay Thai Fighter” that profiled Muay Thai stars Kit Cope and Ben Garcia. Soon after, Sharoshkin joined a local fight gym in San Diego and quickly gravitated towards fighting.

Following a successful amateur career, Sharoshkin was victorious in his professional debut in August 2010, by way of majority decision over Titus Holmes.

Tiffany Van Soest vs. Heidi Otterbein

The 23-year-old Van Soest is coming off a dominant performance against a previously unbeaten Vivian Leung, continually beating Leung to the punch and opening a cut around Leung’s eye before being awarded a unanimous decision.

The bout will represent the 30 year-old Otterbein’s debut for Lion Fight.

Simon Marcus talks upcoming fight with Joe Schilling at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI

Simon Marcus will take on Joe Schilling this upcoming Saturday at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. The fight is a highly anticipated re-match to their February 25th bout, which Marcus won via (T)KO. Simon took some time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority regarding the upcoming bout with Schilling.

MTA: You recently fought two opponents in China, not in a tournament format, but you literally faced two different fighters in one night with you being the only fight for each. How was that experience?

Simon: It was a unique challenge and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to win both my fights without taking damage or getting hurt and I did so successfully. Also I tried a few different things so the fight’s were not as exciting as most of mine but I got both victories none the less.

MTA: You recently spent time training in Thailand where you also fought and defeated Kaoklai for the WMPF world title. How was your training in Thailand?

Simon: I actually only trained for two day’s before the fight and it was really hot to say the least.

MTA: In a few days the re-match with Joe Schilling will take place. Are you approaching this fight any differently than your first encounter?

Simon: No, I am not approaching this fight differently. I am going to Vegas to win and that is my approach, which is the same as the first encounter.

MTA: You have had three fights since the first fight, while Joe has had none. Do you think having remained active serves as an advantage for you?

Simon: Yes I do. Reason being without much down time I have been training steadily and focused keeping my techniques sharp and my cardio and strength are now peeking as I had planned. Also I have been able to avoid injury so I will be 100% ready for my fight with Schilling.

MTA: Schilling protested the result of the first fight, ultimately having his appeal denied by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Do you feel this re-match is necessary, you didn’t seem to hesitate accepting it when it was offered to you?

Simon: I dont think the rematch is completely necessary. However, as a fighter if I defeat an opponent and he still has a doubt in his mind as to who is the better fighter I have no problems accepting his challenge and proving it to him once again. Also many fans wanted to see the rematch and I want to give the people who support the sport what they want to see. Not to mention I didn’t get the chance to do a lot of things I wanted to in the first fight.

MTA: Last time the crowd was clearly on Schilling’s side, boos poured when you walked out but you seemed to feed off of it. Are you expecting the same kind of reception this time around or do you think you might have made a few more fans after your first win?

Simon: I’m not sure how the crown will react to me but it is far from my concern when I am in the ring. I plan to give them a good show and make sure they get their money’s worth.

MTA: Last time there was a few people, most probably drunk who were yelling at you after you had won the fight and you were back in your corner. What is going through your mind when you see these people who are not trained fighters such as yourself talking and yelling insults at you?

Simon: I try not to pay too much attention to those people because anyone can yell and talk trash when their in a big crowd of people. But I believe the real Muay Thai fans will show respect to me regardless of who they were cheering for.

MTA: At the end of the last fight it seemed you were walking to pay your respect to Joe’s corner and when you walked by him you extended your hand to him and he got upset, turned and made a move towards you, but the ring officials were able to intervene.. Was anything said in that moment or what was the reasoning behind that?

Simon: After the fight I went to show my respect to Joe and he walked away so I taped him on the stomach with my hand and I guess he didn’t like it so he turned around looking upset. Nothing was said though.

MTA: It seems last time there was a lot of verbal jabs from Schilling leading up to the fight. This time around it seems things have been pretty quiet, why do you think?

Simon: I think Joe doesn’t want to eat his words and face all that embarrassment again.

MTA: The winner of this fight is set to fight Artem Levin in June for the WBC world title. How important is it for you to earn that title shot?

Simon: Once I step in the ring it is all the matters in my world. For me I dont just fight to compete at the top level but to be the best. This fight gives me the opportunity to prove that to myself and the world so it is of very great importance to me.

MTA: How is the fight going to go this time around, same result as last time?

Simon: I will win the fight probably by knock out. But there will be no doubt who is the better fighter.

MTA: Any words for your supporters Simon?

Simon: I want to thank everyone who supports me and who supports Muay Thai and Thai culture. I will never stop improving as a fighter and as a martial artist, and continue to show the world what an authentic traditional Muay Thai Champion is. I also hope to be a model athlete that proves when you believe in yourself nobody can stop you.

Schilling aims to put lessons to work in Marcus rematch

Joe Schilling, right, lands a punch against Simon Marcus on Feb. 28 on a Lion Fight Muay Thai card at the Hard Rock Hotel. Marcus gained a controversial victory in the bout in which the fighters agreed to a winner-take-all purse. Their rematch is tonight at the Hard Rock.

Joe Schilling certainly isn’t the first person to come to Las Vegas on a business trip and go home broke.

Tonight, in the time-honored tradition of trying to get even, the 28-year-old returns to the Hard Rock Hotel to face Simon Marcus in the main event of a Lion Fight Muay Thai card.

When the two squared off in February, the trash talk and animosity boiled over to the point the fighters agreed to bet their purses against one another in a winner-take-all bout.

Marcus won the fight after executing a controversial trip that was ruled legal – a call Schilling still disputes – that led to the fight-ending sequence.

Schilling hopes to put the disappointment behind him in the rematch, though he’s unflinching in his belief the loss was nothing more than a fluke.

“There’s not necessarily anything you can learn from what happened in that fight,” Schilling said. “There’s a lot about mental preparation, and I learned there is an unknown factor. You can’t just bet your purse because there are unknown things. You could slip on a banana peel. There are always those weird, fluke things that can happen and I’m more aware of that now. I learned that from the fight and that’s about it.”

Marcus, who doubled his payday to $8,000 by collecting both purses, obviously has a different opinion.

“What happened in the first fight? I knocked him out. Simple as that,” Marcus said. “(The controversy) doesn’t bother me at all, to be honest. If anybody has any questions or doubts about the outcome, that’s what we’re here for. I’m ready to do it all over again.”

This time, there will be no bets. Instead, what’s at stake is a June 9 fight against light heavyweight world champion Artem Levin in Thailand. The winner tonight will get a chance to face Levin for the belt, should they be able to turn around and fight in less than a month.

“I think about that every day,” said Marcus, from Canada. “I’m not overlooking Joe. I’m not trying to underestimate him, but I expect to win. I will win and I will fight Artem.”

    Marcus must also avoid complacency.

“To be quite honest, if you lose you’re going to train harder for the rematch than if you had won most of the time,” he said. “A loss just stains you that much more. You know you have to do more the second time if you want a better result.

“But I train as hard as I can for every fight because it’s about how good I am as a fighter and I want to go into the ring without any doubts in my mind. I want to secure a victory long before I step in the ring.”

The bout headlines a card that includes Guilherme Bertholdo, nephew of Ultimate Fighting Championship star Anderson Silva, taking on UNLV student Chris Lazaro.

Doors open at 4 p.m., with the preliminaries beginning at 5.

    (stream katsottu uudelleen rapsaa varten)

Ottelijat erotetaan toisistaan. Joe hakeutuu lähelle, mikä on paha virhe, Simon vetää kovan polven ääsh-huudolla. Hunter has become hunted. Simon lyö ja potkii Joen köysiin, Joe vastaa kyynärpäällä. Simonin korvantaus on saanut osuman ja veri juoksee olkapäille.

Joe vetää etujalalla etenevää Simonia pysärillä naamaan. Seuraa heinäntekijä koukku ja kääntökyynärpää. Simon on käysissä. Simon tulee käysistä raivolla, vasen oikea ja kova potku. Joe osuu köysiin ja Simon vetää kyynärpään. Lähiotteluun, Joe erehtyy odottelemaan tuomarin break-komentoa, kun Simon tekee nätin heiton, Joe on sekaisin köysissä ja taas Simonin ääsh-polvi suoraan vauhdista. Kongi soi, Schilling jää tuijottamaan Simonia ja antaa tälle hymyn kun tämäkin jää tuijottamaan. Yleisö mylvii!

    2. erä

Kaikki tekniikat vedetään täysillä. Simon nappaa pysärin kiinni ja potkaisee jalat alta. Onneksi pää ei osu kanveesiin. Schilling liikkuu alta kädet alhaalla, Simon paahtaa perässä, kyynärpää ja lähiotteluun. Simon osaa hienosti lähiottelua, teräviä kääntöjä joista kovia polvia. Schillingillä on täysi työ pysyä pelissä joutumatta säkiksi. “Joe goes for a kill”, mutta juoksee naamapysäriin. Joen silmäkulma on auki. Taas Simon kääntää ja vetää hyvän polvipotkun. Kehätuomari antaa lähiottelun jatkua pattitilanteistakin huolimatta. Joe missaa kaksi täpökoukkua millien päästä. Kongi soi, Schilling yrittää tuijottaa Simonia joka tuulettaa yleisölle. Tähän mennessä kaikessa on ollut tappamisen maku.

    3. erä

Schilling tulee päälle, yrittää isoa lyöntiä, ei osu, Simon vastaa tyhjään maaliin kyynärpäällä, jonka Joe väistää niiaamalla. Simon jahtaa Joeta ja näyttää nousevan johtoasemaan, kun yhtäaikaa lyödyt koukut näyttävät osuvan molempiin. Lähiottelu, jossa Joe seisoo ja Simon hakee huudolla kovia polvia. Joe on selviytymismoodissa. Tuttu reittä vasten heitto ja Schilling lentää selälleen. Joe nousee hitaasti ylös, kävikö taas kalpaten kuten viime kerralla? Joe huutaa jotain Simonille ja heilauttaa kättään. Joe vastaa koukuilla, mutta pakenee väsyneenä alta. Simon seuraa kovilla potkuillaan. Kongi soi. Hikinen Simon tuulettaa, Joe menee väsyneenä kulmaansa. Kommentaattori : “the crowd is going absolutely bananas!”

Kuten kommentaattori sanookin: “anything can still happen. Both of these guys are still dangerous.” Munareiden kuppi roikkuu yhden narun varassa lahkeesta. Joe menee omaan kulmaan, huutaa “cut it off” ja kulmamies leikkaa kupin irti. 15 sekuntia jäljellä ja yleisö kannustaa “Simon, Simon, Simon!”. Ottelu jatkuu ilman Joen alasuojaa. Pari suoraa lyödään, Joe vetää pysärin, Simon ottaa kiinni, potkaisee jalat alta ja Joe lentää niskoilleen jalat kohti kattoa. Ottelu on päättynyt! Joe hoipertelee ylös ja ravistelee päätään. Simon tuulettelee varmana voittajana.

Voittaja on Simon Marcus! Harley-Davidsonit kiiltelevät taustalla ja ilta Las Vegasin The Jointissa on päättynyt.
